“After I saw the Art of Encaustic in a
Gallery in Tennessee, I was hooked. I searched out galleries around
Atlanta and on the Internet that represented encaustic Art,” says
Melody.
“After several months of observation and a lot of research, I
started taking classes from a local encaustic artist, who simply
blew me away with his knowledge of the technique.
I studied the art and began collecting the supplies necessary,
thinking I could teach myself. That is when a fellow artist told me
about a school in Sandy Springs that did instruction in encaustics.
I called and immediately started taking classes.”
I am absolutely addicted to this medium. I can’t get enough…I have
actually rubbed blisters on my hands from scraping and have more wax
burns than I care to share. BUT, I’m in heaven when I work with it.”
Encaustic art is comprised of Hot BeesWax and Oil pigmentation
applied with the aid of a heat gun or blow torch. It has made a
major resurgence during the last decade. To learn more about this
ancient art, there are plenty of articles available on the Internet
by looking up encaustic history.
